Accelerated Reader Program (AR) BHE Media Teams! (4th-5th)
BHE uses the AR program to increase students' reading levels.  Students earn "points" by taking tests on the computers, which allows them to earn various rewards and also increases their reading level and confidence. BHE offers two clubs for highly motivated students.  These students are recommended by their classroom teacher at year end for the upcoming school year.

SSYRA Reading Challenge (3rd-5th) SMAC (Student Media Assistant Club)
This reading motivation program was designed to entice students to read high interest, contemporary literature for personal enjoyment. The long term goal of the program is to nurture lifelong readers who will continue to read for information needs and personal pleasure.

Members of SMAC provide a valuable service to the RCE Community.  These students are trained how to properly shelve library books, create book lists, (for personal use and for teachers) and offer assistance to the Media Specialist, teachers and students in the classroom. This club meets bi-weekly for training and student recognition.

BHE offers a few incentives to encourage reading of these titles. If a student should read:

3+ SSYR titles - Students will be invited to vote for their favorite SSYRA title on a voting machine supplied by the Osceola Voting Office.

7+ SSYR titles - Students will be invited to the Media Center for a Pizza Party & Raffle Prize Event.

13+ SSYR titles - Students will be invited to a special field trip or sleep-over in the Media Center.

Media Crew

Each member will rotate through all the jobs required to run the RCE Morning New Show. The jobs include:  2 camera positions, student anchor, teleprompter position, sound position, video switcher, and 2 AR positions. Media Crew is divided into 2 teams.  Team A works the beginning of the year until the end of the 2nd 9 weeks.  Team B works the 3rd and 4th 9 weeks. Being a member of this team is a fun and challenging experience. This club meets every school morning from 8:25-9:00.

Our goal is to develop a life-long love of literature in our students,as well as to prepare them for the future with the skills necessary to find, select, and utilize information resources.
